He feels as if it is normal or “okay” to feel that way. At this point, Holden has really started to understand that he might need help. This quote proves that Holden is indeed depressed and doesn’t want to be himself anymore. “really felt like, committing suicide” (Salinger 104). Holden lies to everyone, even himself, because he doesn’t want to be him. Every experience he has with people doesn’t go well. ![]() Holden is lonely and seeks company of others. In this book, Holden grows up and learns about how the world really is. The main character, Holden, has depression. He then experiences depression because of the fakeness of the world. The Catcher in the Rye, by JD Salinger, is about a kid named Holden growing up into adulthood.
